Claude Helped Us Write Scripts 5x Faster

Hey,

It's time to dive into what we've been working hard on to get results on the channels we've been managing and running ourselves.

Last week I spoke to six different business owners about YouTube. Every single one had the same problem.

They had ideas. Real ones, built from years of experience, hard lessons, genuine expertise. Some had been sitting on a channel idea for over a year. Others had started, posted a few videos, and quietly given up.

The problem was never the knowledge. It was translating it into something people would actually watch. That gap, between knowing something and keeping a stranger watching for eight minutes, is where most business owners get stuck.

For years, the answer was: hire a writer. Which is what we did at Playstack. And we were spending thousands a month on it.

How to use AI the right way

Treat it like a vending machine. Topic in, script out. What comes back is generic because what went in was generic.

The quality of the script is determined almost entirely by the quality of the context you give it. Feed Claude enough of the right material and it stops writing like an AI and starts writing like someone who actually knows the subject, the audience, and the channel.

Here is exactly what we put in.

Step 1: Set up your Claude project properly

Most people skip this and it is the biggest mistake you can make.

Before you write a single script, build a Claude project with standing instructions. What the channel is about, who it is for, what formats work, what to avoid, your script template, examples of your best hooks.

Once that foundation is there, you never start from zero. Every new brief just adds the topic and fresh context on top of something that already knows the channel inside out.

We have had scripts recently where we changed one or two sentences before filming. Not luck. The project had enough context built up to know exactly what was needed.

Step 2: Start with a voice note

Before anything else, the host records five minutes on the topic, unscripted, just talking. What they think, what they have seen, what most people get wrong. We transcribe it and drop it straight into the brief.

This is what separates a script that sounds like the person from one that could have come from anyone. Claude picks up the phrasing, the rhythm, the examples they reach for naturally. The draft that comes back is already in the right register. It is the single highest-leverage thing you can do before briefing a script.

Step 3: Define how your audience actually consumes content

Not just who they are but how they watch. An older audience wants to build trust and will follow a slower, more considered pace. A younger audience needs the information fast or they are already gone. That changes the structure, the pacing, and the hooks completely.

Write a short paragraph on this and add it to your Claude project. Every script will be shaped by it automatically.

Step 4: Feed in your retention data

We connect transcripts of the channel's best-performing videos to the Claude project and include the YouTube retention numbers alongside them.

Retention is the metric that actually tells you what is working. The goal is to hold at least 40% of viewers through the full video. That is the threshold where YouTube starts pushing your content to a wider audience. Hit 50% and you are in real growth territory.

When Claude can see where people stayed and where they dropped off, it starts writing toward what works. Every script gets a little more dialled in than the last.

Step 5: Read the comments before you write anything

The top videos on any topic have comments full of questions nobody answered, things viewers disagreed with, follow-ups they wanted that never came. That is your script brief right there. You are not guessing what the audience wants, you are reading it directly from them.

We also run a scraper built with Claude that pulls YouTube videos, Reddit threads, and articles on the topic so we know exactly what ground has been covered and where the real gaps are. That is where the angle comes from.

How we saved $1000s per month

Scripts that used to take a writer two to three days now take under two hours, done by the project managers who already know the channel best. The output is faster, more consistent, and because it is built on real context, it performs better on the metrics that matter.

The writers we used were good. But they were always working with incomplete information. Claude, briefed properly, works with everything.

The one thing AI still can’t do

Validate the topic. Before any script gets written, we check whether there is real demand, whether small channels are getting outlier views on this subject, whether there is an angle nobody has taken yet. We have built validation tools in Claude to help, but the judgment call is still human.

And always do a final read out loud. Anywhere it sounds like a press release, rewrite it the way you would actually say it. Add the stories, the anecdotes, the personal touches. The AI gets you 80% there. That last 20% is what makes it yours.

If you are sitting on ideas that have not made it to camera yet, or you have tried YouTube and could not stay consistent, this is the system that changed it for us.

Happy to walk you through exactly how we set it up.
